Frequently Asked Questions

Are Naturopathic Visits Covered by OHIP & Alberta Health Services?

No. Appointments with Naturopathic Doctors are not covered by Canadian Government Health Insurance.  However they are covered by extended health insurance plans. If you have extended health insurance, contact your insurance company to see how much coverage your plan has for naturopathic services for each year.

Do you do Direct Billing?

Yes & No.

The HealthOne Clinic and Pro Motion Calgary Clinic both offer direct billing if your insurance policy allows for direct billing.

The Wellness & Greatness Clinic located in Downtown Calgary currently does not offer direct billing.  In a few weeks this will soon be available.  Therefore, if you book at the Wellness & Greatness location, you will need to pay out of pocket first, and later submit your appointment reciept to your insurance company to get reimbursed.

Is there a Cancellation Policy?

Yes.  Each clinic has their own cancellation Policy.

Wellness & Greatness (Downtown Calgary)

  • 50% of the appointment fee will be automatically charged if cancellation or rescheduling of an appointment occurs within 24 hours of the scheduled appointment time.

  • 100% of the appointment fee will be automatically charged if you provide zero notice at all and completely no show

  • These charges will happen even if you are new to the clinic and it is for your very first appointment, as you are reserving and not using a time slot that another patient could have used.

Can I use my Acupuncture Coverage for Naturopathic Appointments?

Unfortunately, you can not use Acupuncture Coverage for Naturopathic Appointments.  You can only use Naturopathic Coverage for Naturopathic Appointments.  You can only use Acupuncture Coverage with a registered Acupuncturist or Traditional Chinese Medicine Doctor.  Insurance is billed based on the healthcare professional you see.

For example, if you get acupuncture with a Naturopathic Doctor it is covered under Naturopathic Coverage.  If you get acupuncture with a Physiotherapist, it will be covered under your Physiotherapy Coverage.

What is the Difference between a Naturopathic Doctor & Medical Doctor?

Medical doctors (MDs) are trained in conventional medicine, focusing on diagnosing and treating medical conditions using pharmaceuticals and surgical interventions. Naturopathic doctors (NDs),diagnose and treat conditions emphasizing holistic and natural approaches to healthcare, focusing on prevention and wellness through lifestyle changes, nutritional therapies, and herbal remedies.

What is the Difference between a Naturopathic Doctor & Nutritionist/Dietician?

Naturopathic doctors (NDs) are healthcare professionals who have a broader scope of practice, combining natural and holistic therapies with conventional medical knowledge. They can diagnose and treat medical conditions and often incorporate nutrition as a part of their treatment plans. Nutritionists, on the other hand, are specialists in dietary and nutritional aspects, providing guidance on meal planning and dietary choices but typically don't have the medical training or authority to diagnose and treat medical conditions.
